UPPER DARBY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Class of '76 knows that CLIFTON RULES

MAIL CALL!!!!

From the mail we have received countless messages. Some that need to be shared are below...

From Bob Ohnigian:

I will not be able to attend, but feel free to post the following on any message board for our class. Or let me know the best place to post it. Thanks, Bob O. Hey everyone have a great reunion! What do I remember about U.D.H.S.? 1) Driving over to the Bazaar of All Nations during my Driver Ed class with Mr. Forney to pickup soft pretzels so the Varsity Club had them to sell after school. 2) Eating lunch on the hill in the courtyard. Remember the wood frame underneath the grass? 3) Being in the only all boys homeroom with Mr. D'Amico. My desk was behind Tom O'Doherty. There was also one all girl homeroom. 4) Mrs. Young's German class with Steve Clark, the Robinson twins, Nancy Rickards, ... a great group of people. Oh and Nancy R. shot me down when I asked for a date. That's ok, my wife says thanks! 5) English teacher Art Doyle was a male model! 6) Mrs. Lawler for ty ping class. Who knew then that I'd become a computer programmer. 7) Phy. Ed. with Mr. Barr because he was a great person who happened to live on the next street over from mine. 8) Ah, Chemistry was tough with Mr. Becker. I wanted to take a different class for the last two semesters, but Mr. Becker asked me to stick it out... so he could give me a "D". Guess how hates organic chemistry!! 9) All the gang from Highland Park elementary and B.H.J.S.! 10) Taking a ride one morning in the back of Bill Rogers red '6something' GTO. Loved that car. Fortunately my hearing finally returned to normal late last year! (Can you say glass packs!) Bill one of the great gang of neighbors on S. Brighton Ave! 11) I still have both my purple and gold and my red, white and blue tassles. Though the purple and gold is very faded from the year or so it hung from the rear view mirror. 12) The Flyers Stanley Cup victories in 1974 and 1975. That sparked the creation of ice hockey teams from various streets. Mi ne was the Brighton Bruins! Love that Bernie Parent! 13) Wrestling team with Mr. Art "The Hammer" McCall. Unfortunately Bob Loper had my number and I just could not beat him so I left the team. However it's nice to see Steve Bell from the class of 1973 as the coach now. Steve is a close friend of my brother Jim who was also on the wrestling team. 14) The Armenian gang, including the Havnoonian brothers. You know who you are. I took Michele Kazian to the Senior prom! 15) Dr. Jaffe who made high school a nice place to be. My only regret is that I was never a member of any team or club and did not have to chance to get to know my classmates outside of the classroom. That's my Senior picture on page 212 is my only picture in the yearbook, but then take a look at that smile. That's ok because my 7 year old son Peter and 5 year old daughter Mary will have that opportunity in the... Haverford School District. Talk about a Thanksgiving Day game conundrum! Thanks to everyone for making Kind ergarten to 12th so much fun!

From Linda Marrongelli:

As it turns out one of our relatives has her wedding the same day & time! I sadly will have to miss our 30th reunion!

From Peggy Gould:

Really sorry to miss it - especially would have liked to see Nick Zarabara. I'll be in Toronto that week. Hope you have a great time and look forward to hearing about it. Best regards, Peggy

From Anita Richardson

I just got your flyer today for class info for the reunion booklet so I
thought I better email it to you. I'm sad to say I will not be able to make
it to the reunion. I have to come into town the 10th of November to take my
parents down to Florida and I can't swing another trip. I will really miss
seeing everyone, but please tell them I said hello and let them know that we
love visitors in Alaska if anyone is interested. I will be putting a check
in the mail tomorrow with a self addressed envelope to get a copy of the
reunion book. Wanted to let you know so you can add one to the order.
Thanks again for all your efforts in getting the reunion together. I'll
plan on the next one!! I know you all will have a great time catching up
and I will miss being there.

From Eleanor D'Amelio - Head of the Business Department at UDHS.  she's 88!

She is unable to come to the reunion because she cannot drive at night -- lives in Riddle Village.  She had been going to reunions and such up to about two years ago, when night driving started to be a problem for her.  She says "hello" to all that remember her.

From Art McCall - you may remember him as the typing teacher or wrestling coach... he is attending, but wanted to leave a message to the class

Nice to see you guys after thirty years.  Readers Digest version of me since 1976
Stopped coaching in 1980 to become president of teacher's union.  We settled with no strike and helped to reorganize the district.  Taught for another ten years before retiring in 1990.  Got remarried in 1984 to Ms. Butler.  She started in Clifton, then to Drexel Hill Middle School and then to the high school.   We just celebrated 22 years of marriage.  Got back into coaching and have worked at Conestoga High School, Drexel University and about 20 other schools or groups.  I'm 71 now and have slowed down some but still work with a couple of groups.  Spend our summers (and some of the winter) in the Fenwick Island OC Md. area.   Always nice to see how everyone has grown up and moved on.  Enjoy your reunion.

From Paul A. Falo - concerning the rumor of his premature death

I actually thought the whole situation was pretty comical!!  My wife and my friends are getting a lot of mileage out of it (at my expense of course}, and my wife is  wondering when the insurance check is going to get here. I think what happened is my father (same name) died back in 1989 and somebody read the death notice and not the obituary.
Have a good time at the reunion,
Paul
PS  Pass the word I'm still alive.

 Rich Uzelac
I would love to come to the reunion but I'm moving my company from one office to another here in California. Tell everyone hello and I hope for them all to be in good health and good spirits! If anyone wants to contact me directly, my email is Richard@RealtyTech.com  Cheers, Richard

Darlene Avila

Sorry to miss this one. I live in FL now and do not plan on heading north for Thanksgiving. Have a great time! My e-mail is darstargay@yahoo.com if anyone wants to say hi.

Just wanted to thank you and the other members of the reunion committee for your work in planning the UDHS Class of 1976 30th reunion.  I know it took a lot of work over a lot of months.  The location was actually very conveniant though, with one missed turn, I did manage to add an extra thirty-five minutes to the trip.:) It was a great opportunity to see friends and acquaintences from long ago.
Thanks again.

Hello Fellow Classmates!
I'd like to echo Harold's sentiment.  I know how challenging it is to arrange a gathering of this magnitude, but Karen, Denise & everyone participating on the reunion committee.....you put together a grand affair!  Bill & I had a terrific time and we look forward to seeing each of you at the next party!
Take care!
Yours Truly, Carol

Hey you guys,
I must say it was a great reunion. Seeing faces from 30 years ago, some have changed and some have not, but the important thing is we got to see and hear names, faces and re-establish memories from long ago. It was really, really nice to see all of you once again. Yes, we must do this every year. We are getting older and it would be nice to do this more often.

I should have read the Acorn sooner. I stayed up until 3:30 to read that thing. I didn't want to miss a word out of that. Great job on it.

Also, I must say I didn't realize how much effort, time and financial obligation, you guys put into this, including Cindy, Steve and Carl. I wish I knew about it sooner. I didn't realize you were having that many problems early on. I hope I can help out towards future reunions, like NEXT YEAR!!! :-)

As for the website domain name (udhs76.com) that I bought and put together for the reunion, consider it part of my contribution. I will maintain the domain name indefinitely. If you want to use it to host the reunion domain under that name, that is cool with me, or keep the domain name where it's at. The name I created is currently sitting on one of my webservers (I currently have two). Under the domain name's properties on my webserver, I created what is called a "re-direct'. What that does is sends you to the current reunion website you guys put together. This means if you type in www.udhs76.com, it automatically redirects you to http://www.freewebs.com/udshs76/.

I will definitely stay in touch with everyone! I just wish I did this sooner, (get more involved) like numerous years ago. It's kind of like the song goes, you don't know what you got until it's gone, and what I mean by 'gone' is the YEARS. I don't want to wait again for more numerous years to separate friendships.

Cya all later! Ace (Abed) Fekay

Wow, that was a great reunion.  I can't believe all the people I rememebered. I had a really good time and I hope you were able to enjoy the evening. I guess I'm still going down memory lane.     Edie (Sue) Taylor

It was absolutely my pleasure being there! You guys did a great job. - Mel Brodsky

Well kids - I don't know about you, but I had a BLAST at the reunion .  the stories and the memories, were definitely worth all the hard work we did .   We pulled together as a team and pulled off a successful event . I thank you all for a GREAT time.

What a great job.  And we do know who made it and had the push to get everyone going.  I stayed about two and a half hours.  That's overtime for me but I was having so much fun.  Actually talked to some people I didn't expect to see.  All very nice. Getting one of those off the ground is like trying to get an elephant to fly. You could tell people were really having fun.  I met some people I didn't know before who were very nice to say the least.  Congratulations again.

Thanks for putting this all together. I think you should be proud of the way it tuned out! I had a great time and it was nice catching up with folks I haven't seen in years. I'll look forward to the next one!

I wanted to extend my thanks to you & the rest of the reunion committee for all your hard work coordinating our reunion.  Congratulations on a job well done.

I am viewing the live feed as I type this. I was hoping Ace would set up a table with a microphone, speakers so I could communicate with a few classmates that might of remembered me. I don't have a webcam , but do have a mic and speakers. Wish I could of been there.
Warmest regards,Tom Morland 916-444-1126

Class of '76 (especially those of you who went to DH). Congratulations on your 30th reunion! I just wish that I had been invited (or had known about it) - I would definitely have scheduled a trip to Claymont tonight, especailly when I see that Huver and Honigman are attending (I can still taste those lifesavers that I won from them TEACHING them foul-shooting!!!) Have a great time, and please remember those Junior High teachers who did our best to screw you up before you got up on THE HILL.

I just wanted to send my thanks for all the hard work you and the reunion committee did to make Friday evening such a success.  I really appreciate everyone donating their time and effort to making the reunion so enjoyable.  I know it is hard trying to find addresses and contacting 'lost' classmates.  The Holiday Inn was a nice place, the food was good and you did a wonderful job of decorating, especially with all the memorabilia.  It was well organized. I know you're all exhausted, but please remember that your efforts have not gone unnoticed.  Thanks for a great job!

I thought the night was a great success.  The memorabilia and yearbook pictures made a great display. The Acorn as a handout was really a great idea. I've been sharing it with a few people that couldn't attend and I hope it inspires them the next time around. Coming from New Jersey I was surprised at how close the hotel was to Delaware County and how easy it was to get to.  It may have thrown people off to be going to Delaware but it really wasn't much farther than going to the Lagoon. Thanks again for all of your hard work.

Please give my regards to the entire planning committee it was a great event , the room layout was spacious, hotel easy to find. Food , DJ and everything was really nice. The evening was a real success!

I unfortunately was not able to make it ( I REALLY wanted to), but, I just wanted to take time out to tell you and the crew that you guys did an excellent job at running this...I have never seen a reunion run like this, and constantly keeping people updated..much kudos.

You all did a great job, consider the weekend deal (next time).there is never enough time at these gatherings to reconnect, relax and enjoy

Sounds like you all had a fantastic time.  I'm still so sad I missed it.  I am definitely in on the next one.  Can't wait to get my booklet and see more pictures on the website as they come in.  And even though I couldn't make it I want to say thanks to you and the entire reunion committee who worked so hard all these months to pull it together.  Like you said, the older we get the more we treasure those we share a history with.  Some of the ideas that came out of this one, like more get togethers, destination reunions, etc sound like great fun.  The idea of keeping up the website sounds great too.  I travel quite a bit as I'm sure others do and it would be fun to do a forum or message board to post notes in case we travel to places where classmates live or might be visiting.  Thanks again for all your hard work.

Even though the crowd was small it was still fun ... great to see everyone that did come...  great job organizing last night... I know how hard it is to get people to come out and the fact that the group came out no matter how small says a lot...

I have to say each and everyone that was and has been involved with the reunion and everything to do with planning, meetings and all the hours of devotion to it has shown an AWESOME job by everyone involved with it. So to that I say congrats and thanks from me as a 1976 graduate and from our class as well.  The website is awesome too!  Good job to all involved in setting it up and maintaining it too....

I look forward to future meetings to help in any and all ways possible....

General Stuff

2/27
Just a quick thank you for keeping everyone informed of our classmates and their families.
I know I appreciate knowing and if not for anything to just maybe keep them in my thoughts & prayers no matter who they are and no matter what their circumstances are.

It is very sad and you are so right to remind us all how precious life is and how it can be a split second and one of us can be gone or one of our family members!

It is important to keep in touch with our friends & families but even more important to make sure we take the time to do that no matter what it takes!

So again I say thanks for passing any and all information that you do about our classmates & their families.
Linda Marrongelli Sudall
